About Me

It's incredibly rewarding to help students understand things that were once difficult for them and then see them use that new knowledge to learn even more. For me, tutoring is about more than just sharing facts; it's about sparking a genuine interest in learning and helping students become self-assured and think for themselves. I've had the chance to work with a wide variety of students, from those learning basic ideas to those doing advanced research. This has involved explaining complicated topics clearly, giving helpful feedback, and changing how I teach to fit each student's unique way of learning and how quickly they progress. I've also helped students develop good study methods and improve their ability to solve problems. Every time I work with a student, I learn something new too, which makes me a better communicator and helps me see things from different points of view. My own learning has been a continuous process of discovery. I've always looked for chances to learn from many different areas of knowledge. I have earned degrees that have given me a strong base in several important subjects. Right now, I am always learning new things by keeping up with the latest research and developments in various fields. I tutor many different subjects because I have a broad education and I'm always learning. These include English and Spanish language and literature, history, and social sciences. While I enjoy all the subjects I teach, I am especially drawn to languages and social sciences. My way of teaching is all about creating a classroom where students feel supported and interested, and where they feel comfortable asking questions and trying new things without fear of being wrong. I think it's important to teach each student in a way that works best for them, because everyone learns differently. This often means breaking down big ideas into smaller parts, using examples from real life to explain things, and encouraging students to get involved. My goal is to help them truly understand the material, not just memorize it, so they can use what they've learned in new situations. I am patient, encouraging, and I focus on helping students become both capable and confident. Outside of school, I'm very interested in how gender and social justice issues intersect. I really enjoy thinking about political philosophy and having deep conversations about gender, race, social justice, and class. I also find it relaxing and inspiring to exercise and explore different places, either with my daughter or by myself.
