I'm passionate about helping students because I've been in their shoes. There was a time when I struggled with mathematics and statistics, and it felt pretty hopeless until I decided to seek help. With the support and patience of mentors, I learned how to turn things around for myself. Now, I want to be that person for students who are feeling lost and need a little guidance.
It's such a rewarding experience to help someone build their confidence and develop the skills they need to succeed. I've had the pleasure of working with a diverse group of students through my roles as a Student Learning Assistant and Supplemental Instruction Leader at South Texas College. More recently, I've taken my tutoring online to reach even more students who need support.
I'm a senior at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, studying Applied Mathematics with a focus on Statistics. I also graduated from South Texas College in McAllen, TX, with an AS in Mathematics. On top of that, I'm a CRLA Level II Advanced Tutor from the College Reading & Learning Association, with over 10 years of tutoring experience.
I tutor a variety of subjects, including ACT Math, ACCUPLACER Math, CLEP Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, College Algebra, and Statistics. My favorite subjects to teach are College Algebra and Statistics. These subjects open up pathways to new majors and opportunities for students, had they not taken them nor passed.
When it comes to my teaching style, I focus heavily on the fundamental rules of algebra and statistics, believing that a strong foundation is key to tackling more advanced concepts later on. I also enjoy using the Socratic Method to spark discussions and encourage students to think critically about what they're learning.
Outside of the classroom, I have a few hobbies that keep me busy! I was on the fencing team at Texas A&M University, and my weapon of choice is the foil. I still fence at local clubs, and it's a great way to stay active. I also enjoy video games like Guild Wars 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2, and I'll jump at any opportunity to touch grass (walking, camping, fishing, etc.).
Through my tutoring, I hope to inspire students not only to do well in their studies but also to cultivate a love for learning that lasts a lifeti
