I earned my Bachelors degree in English from Virginia Commonwealth University and my Masters in Special Education from New Mexico State University. I have been teaching reading/writing/LA and Special Education for 15 years. I spent 4 years teaching the Read 180 program and had tremendous results in student gains. Typically a 2-3 year grade level gain in one year. It is my belief that all students can learn and given the right platform, can see gains quickly.
I am highly qualified to teach English, Reading, Writing, Organization skills and Social Studies/History. I really enjoy teaching reading and writing as well as literature. I also have experience working with behavior modification in regards to students with autism, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and TBI.
It is important to know how students learn which makes getting to know a student so valuable. Communication with a student and their parents is paramount. Collaboration is important if I am to help a student. I need to know about past school experiences, home habits, etc...
At the end of the day, I love what I teach and who I teach. I have taught at the elementary level on up to university level. Students have a thirst for knowledge and feel better about learning when they have the skills to navigate the world of education.
