I recently completed my PhD in Comparative Literature this summer (2020) at the University of Michigan. I received my BA from Mount Holyoke College in 2011 in Romance Languages (working in both French and Spanish). For five years I taught university students English literature and composition, as well as French language, literature, and culture. I tutor writing and reading comprehension to highschool and college students, including SAT prep and college essay writing. I am fluent in French and teach at all levels. I tutor Spanish at beginning and intermediate levels. Tutoring is a unique opportunity to not only improve a student's performance, but also to work with them on their own reading and writing style and strategy. I enjoy learning about how students think and work, as we develop a study plan that works for the individual. I like to foster a stress-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and know that their ideas are valued. When I teach writing, I emphasize process and progress, as well as argumentation and analysis. In my spare time, I like spending time with my two cats, gardening, and learning new languages.
