Practice makes perfect. Students should get involved with learning the specific math problems and do examples rather than listen and take notes.

Get to know them, and then understand where they are having difficulties in their thought process.

By helping them understand the problem, and then later going on and teaching me.

By helping them understand and start getting problems right.

Go step by step and help them understand.
