Session Summaries by Math Tutors

Math Tutoring review by Olivia in Chicago, IL
The student had a test, so we reviewed the first few sections of chapter 8, including solving quadratic equations, defining and finding asymptotes and slants, and finding the domain and range of functions. We did a few basic practice problems and then spent a majority of the session working more complex problems that had multiple parts which tested more than one of the chapter sections. The student was doing well solving the problems on his own, only needing small pointers to keep him focused on the right part of the problem.

Today we reviewed a lot of topics including word problems, probability, measures of central tendency, area and perimeter, polygons and more. The student is getting comfortable switching between the different types of questions, and she is much more familiar with the vocabulary and formulas than she was a few weeks ago. She's doing great!

Math Tutoring review by Cormac in Chicago, IL
Today we worked on Math homework the whole time. We did the problems on the student's worksheet. The student is going to review for a quiz and then take it online. He can take it as many times as necessary until he gets his desired grade. The session went well overall and we are still waiting on any scores back on various tests and quizzes.

Math Tutoring review by Michael in Chicago, IL
Completed an online assignment that encompassed infinite series, improper integrals, slope fields, differential equations, and solids of revolution. The student knows how to approach all the problems and makes few computational errors, so I think he will be ready for his upcoming exam. I gave him a few pointers involving simplification of limits and reminded him to use his calculator for finding the roots of higher order polynomials. He does homework between our tutoring sessions and it shows in his problem solving skills.

Math Tutoring review by Everett in Chicago, IL
Student A: Focused on honing his long division skills for most of the session. Made significant progress in understanding and applying procedures for complex above grade level problems. Also assessed reading comprehension using a short story. Student B: Reassessed currency calculations and went over problems that were part of homework that I assigned in a previous session. I introduced parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adverb, etc.) and had her classify and locate these terms in a short story she wrote about Minecraft. To finish the session, I also read aloud a short story and she was able to answer the questions easily.
