What is your teaching philosophy?

I resolutely favor critical-thinking skills over rote learning. I believe humans have a natural desire and ability to learn, and my experience has shown me that there is a fairly direct correlation between how interested a student is in a subject and how well she is able to master the material. My primary role as a teacher is to help spark that interest.
