Hello! My name is Melissa, nice to meet you! :) I have been teaching and tutoring for a very long time, in many different disciplines. I currently work as an online tutor in various sites, tutoring in Biology, SAT, ESL for English, Spanish, and Algebra.
I truly enjoy seeing students' faces light up when they FINALLY get that concept or question they have been working so hard on! It is an accomplishment for both of us! I will always stay by your side until you fully understand what it is that is troubling you. :)
I went to medical school for 5 years and worked in the hospital as well as in a laboratory setting. Before that, I majored in Molecular Cell Biology with a Neurobiology emphasis at UC Berkeley. While in high school, I took AP Biology and received a 5 on my AP exam. I also took the SAT II Biology test and received a 700.
My medical school was in Guadalajara, Mexico, where I learned how to speak colloquial Spanish with the natives for 3 years. I then went to Puerto Rico for 1 year and worked in a hospital, speaking to patients who only spoke Spanish. Before that, I took AP and Honors Spanish in high school.
I am currently an online tutor, teaching English to children abroad in China as their first exposure to a foreign teacher via the internet! :)
I graduated from Coding Dojo, a software developer bootcamp that helped me learn and enhance my skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, and the MEAN stack (MongoDB, ExpressJS, AngularJS, Node). Before that, I was self-taught in HTML, and learned it over a summer while in high school.
I was a violinist in the Kirkland Civic Orchestra while in Seattle, Washington. Before that, I was a first violinist in the PYULSD Honor Orchestra, Esperanza High Orchestra, and Travis Ranch Middle School Orchestra. I have been playing the violin since I was 9 years old.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my message! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or just want to chat with me. I'm always here to help, and try to make the learning experience as painless as possible! :)
