Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Each student learns differently. Each student has a different background going into a class. It's important to find out where the student needs help in order to give them a better chance for success in the course. Tutors are here to help!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first session is where we discuss the class, and I look to see where I can find misunderstandings. For math/physics classes, sometimes it's difficulty in understanding the concepts or needing more practice with the math. The first session is a good place to pick a tutoring direction.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By finding where the biggest struggles are in the coursework, I can help empower the student to be more successful. Once they start understanding the material, they become less frustrated. And ultimately they start doing better, which motivates them! Once they start understanding where they are having difficulties, they can find the direction they need to independently start doing better in the course.
