I am a graduate of Western Michigan University and Wayne State University Law School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communications Arts and Sciences with a focus on persuasive speaking. I have a minor in Sociology and a background in Economics. I was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1988 and remain active and in good standing. My professional career spans over 25 years. My career focus has been criminal law, both in the state and federal systems. In that capacity, I have developed excellent communications skills, both verbal and written. Throughout my career, I have sought or created opportunities to teach and work with a variety of students. I spent at least one week a year teaching Trial Advocacy at the federal government's National Advocacy Center in Columbia, SC. In addition, I served as a law professor at Cooley Law School, teaching Advanced Criminal Procedure. I have had the opportunity to travel to Eastern Europe, to participate in an international criminal law seminar. I have taken the opportunity to educate agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Drug Enforcement agency on various aspects of the law. I have a particular interest in civil rights prosecutions and public corruption. I have also participated in educational programs for the general public, to assist in explaining to them how federal and state agencies approach criminal investigations and prosecutions. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Criminal Justice.
My teaching style is best described as interactive. I believe that all students have the capacity to learn and comprehend provided that their instructor be engaged, enthusiastic, and able to communicate at a variety of levels. I have consistently demonstrated all of these qualities in my work with students. I find it incredibly satisfying when a struggling student "gets it". I believe that education is fundamental for all, and critical for a deeper quality of life. In my spare time, I am an avid reader. I also enjoy yoga, bike riding, cooking and entertaining. I volunteer my time at a free legal aid clinic designed to serve indigent residents in the metro area.
