I am a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education. During my course of study I substitute taught students ranging from Kindergarten to upper Elementary, in addition, to working with YMCA's after school program. Since graduation, I worked with Metro Nashville Public Schools in Nashville Tennessee. I served students and families for several years in 2nd grade with a certification in K-6 education. I have participated in Metro Nashville Public Schools Accelerating Tutoring Program which provides additional support to those students who are performing below grade level. I am most passionate about helping students learn in the areas of Reading and Math. In my experience helping students with problem areas in Reading and Math, I create lessons and activities tailored to each student's ability level and learning modality. Having a strong foundation in Reading and Math is key to having a successful academic career that spans across all academic content. I have experience with teaching all subjects thus adhering to the social and emotional wellbeing of each student.

For most of my childhood, I trailed behind my mother and father as they embarked on numerous missions in over 30 countries, across five different continents. I finally returned home upon starting my senior year of high school. Upon graduating from high school, I attended the University of Oklahoma where I later graduated with a B.A in Sociology. After college, I spontaneously decided to teach English in Taiwan. During my time in Taiwan, I learned a lot about Taiwanese culture and language. It was here that I relieved how much I enjoyed teaching and decided that I had to go back to school. In the Summer of 2016, I went back to school to pursue my Master's degree in International Education.I am now in my 4th year of teaching overseas, and I could not be happier. By growing up around so many different cultures and customs as a child, it has helped me to find common ground with almost anyone that I come across. Most importantly, it has helped me to connect with my multicultural students and their families. In my previous position as a 1st-gradeteacher at the American International School in Conakry, I made it clear to both the students and parents that I wanted to set a positive and inspirational learning environment. During activities, I encourage students to speak in their native language to convey thoughts and feelings about specific pieces of literature or to deconstruct a difficult math problem. By speaking both their local language and English, they were able to communicate and collaborate more effectively and thus were more likely to take risks and learn from them. In my current position as a 3rd grade teacher in Saudi Arabia, It is not uncommon for someone to walk into my classroom and see several students nestled in the reading corner, reading a "Just right" book, or to see students using Seesaw to demonstrate their knowledge of various text structures in a nonfiction book. This free and relaxing environment is what I thrived in as an international student and is what I try my best to replicate for the students.

I currently am a K-3 grade Inclusion teacher for Apache Junction Unified School District. I absolutely love seeing my children grow academically each year. I have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my Master's degree in Special Education (Cross Categorical). I began teaching in 2008 and my backgrounds cover grades Preschool-3rd grade. I have taught 1st grade general education, 2 years as a behavioral teacher, 1 year as a preschool special needs teacher and of course my current position as an Inclusion teacher. I am currently in my first year of the Graduate Writing Program at Sarah Lawrence College. An integral component of the Writing Program at Sarah Lawrence, and one of the reasons I chose this program, is its emphasis on developing one's skills as an educator.In conjunction with my Teaching Writing class, I am working as a writing instructor for high school students at a school located in Queens. This position requires me to develop the year's curriculum for the After School Writing Program. For this program, I have developed a curriculum that includes critical examination of writers such as Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, David Mitchell and Junot Diaz. The writing component of the curriculum includes exercises aimed at developing the student's fundamental writing skills, including character and setting, structure and developing narrative voice. Writing assignments include both traditional prompts as well as the incorporation of technology and the influence of other media, such as music and fine art.Upon the completion of my MFA in the Spring of 2014, I hope to pursue a career in education.

Additionally, I pursued Honors distinction through a study of James Joyce and interned with now U.S. Senator Mark Udall during his tenure in the House of Representatives. I worked with Crocs Footwear at their global headquarters as an account manager for five years in account management, before relocating to Austin, Texas, in 2011, when I began pursuing a career in education. I am currently certified as a teacher in Texas in six different subjects, including Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Business, and Special Education. I enjoy all of these subjects, but am particularly passionate about language arts. My philosophy of education centers around the learner in all aspects, teaching to the whole student and embracing what makes that student unique.
