Hola! My name is Juan, and I'm passionate about helping students unlock the beauty and power of the Spanish language. I believe learning Spanish is not just about mastering grammar or vocabulary, it's about connecting with people, understanding diverse cultures, and building confidence in real-life communication. That's why I strive to make every tutoring session both effective and personally meaningful for my students.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language from Hope College, where I deepened my understanding of the language through advanced coursework in linguistics, literature, and Latin American culture. One of the most impactful parts of my education was the opportunity to study abroad in Chile for three months. Immersing myself in the language and culture gave me firsthand insight into how Spanish is lived, spoken, and celebrated across borders and I love passing that perspective on to my students.
I've worked with students, from beginners just starting their Spanish journey to students who are looking to strengthen their Spanish grammar, improve their writing skills, and feel more confident using the language in academic settings. I'm especially excited to continue growing as a tutor through Varsity Tutors by supporting students at all levels whether they're taking their first Spanish class, preparing for AP-level exams, or learning Spanish for personal enrichment.
Spanish is by far my favorite subject to tutor because it opens doors to new relationships, cultural appreciation, career opportunities, and a deeper understanding of the world. Whether you're learning it for school, personal growth, or to connect with your roots, I'm here to support and encourage you every step of the way.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in empathy, clarity, and encouragement. I believe that every student brings a unique story and learning style to the table, so I adapt each session to their specific needs and goals. Whether we're focusing on conversation, grammar, or reading comprehension, I break concepts down into approachable steps and create a safe space to learn, make mistakes, and grow with confidence.
