Hello!

I'm an experienced educator with more than ten years of teaching experience in secondary education. While most of my experience is in grades 7 and 8, I'm certified to teach English & Language Arts to students in grades 7-12.

Working with students has always been a passion of mine. I enjoy finding unique ways to present material that will help students access their curriculum. I also like to work individually and in small groups with students so I'm able to personalize and tailor my delivery to fit the needs of the students in front of me.

I have a B.A. in English with an education certification from Muhlenberg College. I recently graduated with my M.A. in English Literature from Rutgers University.

I enjoy tutoring students in reading and writing. When it comes to writing instruction, one of my teaching experiences was in a heavily tested district, so I have experience working with students on school-specific assignments, especially in regards to state testing, standardized tests, etc.

For longer writing pieces, I've spent a lot of time developing various outlines, scaffolding, editing styles, and analytical tips and tricks to help students develop their ideas in a clear and concise fashion that earns them high scores on relevant rubrics.

I have a passion for creative writing and would love to work with students on developing their unique voice! Recently, I've become an agented fiction writer. My debut novel is currently out on submission and I hope to share it with the world soon.

My teaching style can best be described as supportive and steeped in strong relationship-building. I believe students learn best when working with adults who they like to talk to. Expect that I'll get to know your child, their likes and dislikes. I'll find common ground (even if that means watching a movie or reading a book they like). I use this to show students I value their input and that their education and growth is a partnership. Together, we'll take on their challenges and focus on improvement.

Hobbies

Outside of academia, I enjoy writing, reading, horror movies, and sports. I played Division III college basketball and have been known to lace up my shoes for a pick up game here and there! With two young children of my own, I tend to spend a fair amount of time playing pretend, reading kids books, and pushing a stroller around our neighborhood.
