I have been working with children professionally over the last 6 years in various capacities. My personal approach to academic support is a heart-centered collaboration between me and students. I find it most effective to meet kids where they are at and then work together from this place of mutual understanding to reach goals. My genuine wish is to help students find excitement in their education, and interest in the content- especially that which they may be struggling with. This hopefully leads them to a more empowering learning experience. I nannied throughout college, and graduated with a degree in English Literature. My natural inclination toward working with kids lead me to pursue teaching after graduation. I worked in a public school supporting students who learned in non-traditional ways and required alternative teaching methods. This greatly increased my compassion and understanding of the many different ways kids think, learn and work. I then transitioned to a private Montessori school setting, which only helped grow my approach to teaching. The Montessori method helped me see how educators are really just facilitators in the learning experience, there to encourage the human desire to learn already present within each person. I am here to tutor in the subjects of English, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Essay workshopping, and anything involving the Written Arts. I have a lifelong passion for literature which started as a child, when my mom read aloud to my brothers and me constantly. This instilled a deep-rooted passion for this arena of learning, I see how critical it is to developing a well-rounded view of life, as well as strong communication skills. Additionally, it benefits students' learning in almost all other subjects to have a strong literate base. Most of all, I have experienced the personal growth that comes from reading and writing. If I assist in this journey even a little bit, I will consider it a success. Outside of work I find joy in practicing yoga, playing in the mountains, and cooking delicious food with friends and family.
