I received my education with Miami Dade College, Florida International University, and University of Central Florida. I obtained an Associates in Arts in Pre-Medical Science, a Bachelors in Arts in Psychology, and a Masters in Science in Criminal Justice respectively.
I have experience tutoring students ranging from K-12 as well as at the college level. My subjects of choice include Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry, Chemistry, Writing/Reading comprehension, SAT Writing, and SAT Math. Of all the subjects I teach, it's difficult to select my favorite. I have a bias towards math since my family comes from a heavy math background. However, I enjoy editing papers as I'm a detail oriented person and enjoy reading arguments. I also studied pre-medicine with the intention of attending medical school, so my passion lies with the physical sciences. In fact, most of my book collection comprises of works from my favorite scientists ranging from neuroscience to biology.
I've assisted students raise their grades significantly as well as score high on their college placement exams. Part of my philosophy includes listening to each students individual needs prior to the start of each session to ensure I'm addressing specific weak points. During each session, I make the effort to pay attention to details in tone and facial expressions, which allows me to know when a student understood my explanation or perhaps need a more in depth explanation. In my experience students typically will either be too shy or intimidated to admit when they don't immediately understand. I assure them that asking questions along the way is part of the process and I encourage it! My students typically consider me as their academic mentor, because I also make the effort to relate to each of my students.
Outside of tutoring, I simply enjoy living life to my best ability. I enjoy the outdoors, cooking, learning a new skill or topic, and living a healthy lifestyle. As of lately, I've made an effort to learn a new poem by memory every day. I also love classic cinema. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter.
