I've had the great privilege of teaching a wide array of students over the past number of years, from kindergarteners all the way through graduate students. Every person I work with manages to help me learn something about my own education and my own academic interests. I was homeschooled in high school, building many of my lesson plans alongside my dad. I know how valuable a strong tutor can be in guiding students to their own conclusions and their own methods of learning. I received my Associate's degree at age 17 from Holyoke Community College, and transferred into Brown University for three years of undergraduate study. I saw how different an Ivy League school was from a tiny community college. I learned how the expectations and communities were different, and I learned how to manage new kinds of workloads and new kinds of assignments. While at Brown, I studied literature, creative writing, architecture, and a wide array of topics in art. I spent time abroad at the University of Edinburgh, and I saw how European and American universities were different - I saw students with totally different study methods and workloads than my American classmates, and I learned how to integrate new approaches into my studies.
After I graduated from Brown, I returned for two years, completing a Masters Degree in Creative Writing. I taught three classes at Brown, each focused on writing with digital technologies: from virtual reality to artificial intelligence. I love challenging expectations of what "school writing" can be. If you are struggling with writing an essay, paper, or creative piece, I'd love to work through it with you and see how we can both make the whole process more fun and approachable!
