After having a successful first year as a mentor to children at the Young Achiever's Learning Center, an after-school enrichment program, I've come to realize my passion in working one-on-one with students to help better their skills so that they are able to reach their highest potential. As a tutor, I enjoy experiencing the hard work and dedication that the students put into their homework. I am thoroughly delighted to witness any improvements, regardless of how large or small, in their reading or mathematics skills as a result of these miniature tutoring sessions. It is fulfilling work, being able to make even the smallest difference in these children's lives by giving them the extra help that they need, which may not always be readily available to them at home.
In addition, I am a dedicated and passionate creative writer. I enjoy writing short stories and poems as often as I can. As a psychology major, I seek to delve deeply into and incorporate the profundity of human interaction and emotion into my pieces. I post many of my works online under a pen name; my most successful story having accumulated about 20,000 views and 120 reviews. However, in the future, my greatest hope is to have some of my writings
officially published. Being a creative writer allows me the ability to easily adapt and apply my methods to other academic writing styles. Thus, I am very eager and look forward to sharing my skills in creative writing, along with those regarding other forms of writing, through my work as a tutor for Varsity Tutors.
