I am currently in my gap year before medical school in New York City. I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. I have been tutoring since high school, and served as a chemistry teaching assistant in college. Recently, I have been tutoring students for the MCAT exam. My strongest subjects, which I have been tutoring for years, are math, chemistry, physics, and biology/biochemistry. I scored an 800 on my SAT Math and SAT Math II Subject tests, as well as 99th percentile on my MCAT Chemistry-Physics section and 91st percentile overall on the exam.

Being an excellent test-taker and mastering upper level math and science courses not only requires hard work but passion and a unique mindset when approaching more difficult topics and standardized testing.

For students attempting to improve at their "least favorite subject," or on an exam that has challenged and frustrated them for an extended period, my approach is simple. While I love those topics, they're not for everyone, and that's totally okay. My strategy involves finding connections between the weaker subject and the student's current strengths, and to use real life examples to better understand the material.

For students without a naturally good test-taking ability, I believe my personal experience of originally being a poor standardized test-taker provides me a unique perspective. While for me this was for reading comprehension sections, the approach is the same for math and science standardized testing. I have learned to use my understanding of the material to break down questions and find ways to relate to the material in a more creative way.
