I am a 23-year-old Columbia graduate with a real passion for teaching. I have been a tutor in both professional and volunteer capacities for nearly 10 years and have taught students ranging in age from second and third grade through college. I have classroom teaching experience as well and can adapt to both group and individual settings. I have taught students of all abilities in a wide variety of subjects. There is no confusion too small or problem too complicated that I cannot help with if not solve. I am exceptionally dedicated to my students; ensuring that they not simply memorize concepts or regurgitate facts but truly understand the material. I ask them to defend their answers which teaches them that the correct response is often less important than the reasoning used to reach said response. I am a Duke University graduate with a degree in Computer Science, where I also played football and am currently working on a Master's Degree in Cybersecurity. I have always loved math and science and problem solving and these subjects have always been easy for me. I know this is not the case with many people and I have been tutoring since high school. I used to volunteer the local elementary and middle school and also my peers. In college, I helped tutor teammates and family and friends. I was the go to person for math and science when someone needed help even friends siblings at home in different states. Every since I can remember I have always been good at math and enjoyed learning different levels. For tutoring, I have learned to adjust how I tutor based on the needs of the person because everyone learns math different. I currently have a full time job but in my spare time I like being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and animals. My family has a couple cats and a few dogs and I love to go spend time there with them.

I am most interested in tutoring students in Latin or in English literature. I can also teach elementary Ancient Greek to any interested students. My strengths include language, writing, and literary analysis. I can also offer test prep help to students struggling with the SAT writing or critical reading sections, or the subject tests and AP Exams in Latin or English Literature. My philosophy is that students who are happy, engaged, and excited about the material, regardless of ability level, are the best learners. For test prep, this means avoiding the hysteria that many feel about the exams and focusing on the material itself with a realistic view of how to get the most out of the test. For Latin and English Literature, this means forgetting about right and wrong and discovering the joy of interpretation and of language. Outside of academics I am interested in guitar playing and the history of American popular music.

I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I even enjoy tucking away "useless facts"...in fact, those very tidbits got me past the Jeopardy! Online Test and into the Contestant Audition!

I have a PhD from Brown University and an MPhil from the University of Oxford, both in Classics. My area of specialty is the Late Antique Latin poet Claudian and his works. I am also the Assistant Director of the Writing Program and Writing Center at a small liberal arts college, where I teach academic writing, first year seminar, and topics in expository writing. Helping students learn the habits of mind that are needed to express and develop their thoughts at a college level is the core of my job, and something that I take great enjoyment out of. I believe that communication should not be delegated to AI but should remain a uniquely human function-- that said, writing is hard! I will always work to normalize and validate the struggle of learning to write and can't promise any easy fixes or quick tips. I can promise to help students take control of the writing process and begin to uncover their own voices.

I attend the University of Houston majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Every exam taken at UH was administered through the CASA facilities; for every test there were CASA Tutoring Sessions where I volunteered for every exam in all my classes and absolutely love it! Although I did help students that were in my science classes (BIO and CHEM), I would say my strongest subject is Mathematics, particularly Calculus. I have taken Calculus - Calculus 3 and will be continuing my Math enrichment with Differential Equations this fall semester. There's no bigger pleasure than seeing a pupil exceed in a subject he or she is struggling with. And it would be my pleasure to fully dedicate my time to anybody needing help with Mathematics and Foreign Languages. I have kept all my Calculus notes, workbooks, and textbooks, as well as many French and Spanish vocabulary workbooks ready to open and study! Please feel free to ask absolutely anything. I am a graduate of the University of Washington, where I received Bachelor of Arts degrees in music theory and in classical languages (Latin and Greek). I obtained my teaching credentials for secondary mathematics at Western Washington University. Recently I earned my TEFL at the International TEFL Academy in Barcelona. I have worked with a wide variety of students, including elementary and high school, college and adults. I have led large classes of over 30 people, small groups and individuals. I have helped students learn and improve in a variety of subjects, mathematics, language, physics, music and more. I love to travel, experience new cultures and learn new languages. Currently I am learning about the culture of the Czech Republic and their language.
