I have been in the field of education for over 30 years. I got my Masters in Education at UMASS-Amherst and have taught primarily ESL for Northern Virginia Community College, as well as other Universities in Virginia, Massachusetts and Michigan. English teaching job opportunities additionally took me to Japan and Hungary to teach in their public schools. Besides teaching in the classroom, I spent a number of years in Charlottesville, Virginia working as a Program Director with a non-profit adult literacy organization where I trained volunteers to tutor adults in such areas as reading, phonics, writing, spelling, vocabulary development, GED prep and English as a Second Language.
As for Math and Science! Well it's just not my strong area to say the least. Though I love learning about Astrophysics from shows on TV about the universe, if that counts.
Yoga & Meditation is another area that I have been heavily involved in. 20 years ago a small group of us established the first yoga center in Alexandria. We continue to have an all volunteer organization teaching people to improve their overall well being through the ancient wisdom of yoga. This part of my life significantly affects my ability to connect with others for more mindful learning sessions.
I have also traveled to over 25 countries, taught many refugees, immigrants, and international students, as well as those with special learning needs. So the yoga and extensive cultural exposure makes me especially qualified for working with those of diversity.
Overall, I love helping others learn and achieve their academic, personal and work related goals. Education has seemed to be my calling for years.
