I am a graduate with honors in history of Brown University and the Sarah Lawrence College MFA program in Writing, and I have over seven years' teaching experience. I've taught a wide range of students from the college to high school and middle school to the elementary level. With my background in the humanities, I believe educating students with a strong foundation in the liberal arts is the key to their future success as creative, engaged individuals.
Most recently, I've been overseas in Korea, teaching elementary, middle, and early high school students English. At the elementary level I guided students towards confidently expressing themselves in English, developing the skills to complete challenging work successfully, and become all-around better readers and writers.
I have taught small groups of high school students, often with a focus on preparation for major World, American, and European history exams, including in-school exams, and AP, IB, and SAT II History exams. I loved making the students as enthusiastic about the material as I was, peppering my strong, well-organized outlines of the material with engaging stories and anecdotes. By the end of it, my students were talking about Harriet Tubman and Theodore Roosevelt and Abigail Adams as if they knew those people, which made me satisfied in my ability to reach and engaged high schoolers who often associate history with being bored. I taught them that history is anything but boring!
Teaching English is also another great strength of mine, and I encourage students to learn how to read and write with enthusiasm. I have experience teaching all major ESL exams, such as TOEFL, TOEIC, and IELTS. Furthermore, I'm experienced teaching SAT and ACT Verbal and Writing sections. I've guided my students to high scores time and time again, especially with regards to their essays - I have a structured plan that will lead to a great score.
I always put my students first and strive to find a method of teaching that is fun and personalized. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions or wish to schedule a lesson.
