I am a mathematics student at Queens College going into my 3rd year. I have been tutoring at my school's math tutoring center for around a year now, and I've also been doing a lot of tutoring on the side.
My personal approach to tutoring relies on instilling both a intuitive and rigorous sense of the material as well as making the student answer many questions that help them gain a better understanding.
