I discovered my passion and talent for tutoring in college, where I began leading group and individuals lessons in English and Spanish. I found it extremely rewarding to not only share my love of language with others, but also to help others strengthen their communication skills.
At the University of Mississippi, I became a well-known English tutor for international students and Spanish tutor for Americans. I graduated from Ole Miss with B.A. in Spanish as well as a B.A.J. in journalism and public relations, receiving top honors for both degree programs. In addition to my studies in Mississippi, I have also studied in Bilbao, Spain and will soon further education in La Paz, Bolivia.
As both a Spanish and English tutor, I am patient and flexible, working to help student reach their full potential and achieve their academic goals. I will also do my best to keep lessons engaging through integrating their personal interests into lessons wherever possible.
With my background in multimedia journalism, I love to incorporate a variety of mediums into lessons such as music, videos, and newspaper articles, among others. I believe that in order to foster a greater understanding of a language, one must immerse themselves into to it to the best of their ability. That being said, I will also recommend fun resources like Spanish songs to listen to or movies to watch outside of lessons, so students can expose themselves more to the language on their own time in an exciting way.
Overall, my tutoring philosophy centers around "the three P's": positivity, perseverance and practice. With an upbeat demeanor, willingness not to give up, and routine exercise or usage of a skill, students will be on the road to success.
Outside of tutoring, I love to travel, read, go to sporting events, and spend time at the beach.
