Hi, my name is Andrea, and I???d love to work with you. I have extensive experience tutoring, partially through volunteer work and partially in pursuit of my Master's in Education. I worked as a tutor for refugees, teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages. I worked for a semester as a tutor for a middle school student. I student taught English Literature and Writing to both middle school students and high school students. I worked in an enrichment classroom where I worked with struggling students on reading and writing skills. I was also a college level TA for a literature class as well as a writing class. In my free time, I am a stand up comedian and I write for a radio show. I love animals and have two dogs. I once raised a dog for the Guiding Eyes organization to provide a visually impaired person with a seeing eye dog.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is that every learner has a different method of learning and is motivated by different things. It is a tutor and educator's job to work with the student so that the student is in control of his or her education.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I'd spend some time to learn about my student's learning style, finding common ground, and learning about the goals of the student and the ways in which he or she is motivated. Then, I'd gauge the student's knowledge of the subject, both by assessing work and asking the student to reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses.
