Languages Tutoring review by Carolyn in San Antonio, TX
Today we went over the material and phrases that are going to be on the Unit 7 quiz and the Unit 7 Exam that the student is going to take shortly. His mom is waiting to hear back from his school about when he is going to be able to take his makeup tests. We wrote some sentences and reviewed the basics that will also probably be on his test... he is doing a great job of remembering all his vocabulary. We also briefly went over his writing, and we will continue that tomorrow.

Languages Tutoring review by Chantal in San Antonio, TX
The student presented her experiences abroad. Because of her strong command of the French language, this session and each subsequent session will be conducted entirely in French. The student reviewed grammar including future tenses, the imperfect and other verbs. We conjugated er, re, and ir verbs. It was an excellent review session. She also read from the French art book. It is important for her to get as much practice as possible in the French language in various subject matters. Each subsequent session should focus on a topic of discussion and the ability to verbally communicate and discuss that topic. This session focused on art in the South of France. We will begin writing composition as well in subsequent sessions. It was an excellent first session.

Today we worked on numbers from 70 to 999,999 and on the uses of the definite article. The student identified verbs in the present tense in different sentences. We studied "aller" (to go) in the present tense and as a tool to form the future. We read a few more sentences in the her book and used the new material to construct personal sentences. We had a short discussion about traveling in Mexico, discussion prompted by the text we are reading. She needs to know more verbs and she is going to work on "avoir", "etre" and "faire" (common irregular verbs) for next time.

Languages Tutoring review by Simone in San Antonio, TX
The student had worked on the chapter. We reviewed all of the homework that she had done and then did a lot of the exercises. I had her tell a spontaneous story about what she did the day before then we drilled a lot of the irregular conjugations that just need to be memorized. We took a break from grammar part way through to watch a few short videos in French. Then we went back to going over the exercises in the chapter.

We went over the student's homework which was Goldilocks, focused on the passe compose vs. imparfait. We listed the passe compose etre verbs and reviewed the rules for those verbs, +e for fem, +es for fem pl, +s for masc/mixed pl. We reviewed the uses (imparfait is a state or background/passe compose is a moment in time). We conjugated etre, aller and faire for practice. She read the conjugated story aloud and we looked at liaisons and unpronounced final consonants. She listened to two texts and we checked for comprehension. She will send me questions for next lesson via email. I advised her to practice conjugations before our next session.

Languages Tutoring review by Nicole in San Antonio, TX
The student performed well on the oral quiz I gave her. Her oral presentation was okay. I covered new material, including living spaces/rooms in a house, household items, and everyday phrases/vocab used in restaurants when ordering food and making hotel reservations since that is useful vocab if she travels to France. I also finished teaching her numbers (since before we only went up to 60 per her request), and we practiced saying addresses and phone numbers. I also taught her how to say her email address and the French alphabet. I plan to give her a few oral quizzes next week to practice oral comprehension and oral production, and she will prepare a brief monologue to test her oral production as well.
