What is your teaching philosophy?
I've noticed that it is much easier for students to remember material when they can visualize what they are learning. This can be in the way of a picture, a scenario that they would be familiar with, or anything that could remove the "school-worky" vibe and make it seem more "real-life."
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know the student outside of academics, and have some fun!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By helping them understand the basic concepts, instead of just memorizing things.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Keeping things fun and engaging. Using more real-life examples and incorporating materials into their own lives.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try to identify where the difficulty is, and then approach it from a different angle to see if the new way makes more sense.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Playing quiz games, and seeing if they can "teach" me the material!
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Practice, practice, and practice!
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I tell students to imagine that they are reading for fun and are very interested in the subject.
