I have BS in Chemical Engineering, MS in Mathematics and MS and PhD in Petroleum Engineering. I have several years of College level teaching and tutoring. I have carried out industry sponsored research and was on the faculty of a university in Nigeria.

I have several years of taking advanced level mathematics courses and teaching them as well.

I realize that the fear of Mathematics is an inhibiting factor to effective learning by young students. I have been able to help several students by my approach of teaching using concepts and illustrations. What is your teaching philosophy?

I teach with lots of illustration and concept explanation. I have come to realize that the fear of mathematics is the major obstacles towards understanding it. My approach helps to remove that fear, which allows students to see it as any other subject.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will first spend some time to explain the foundation of the particular topic, using very simple terms that the student can understand. Thereafter, I will gradually build on the subject matter to ensure that the student has a good understanding of all the stages

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Through several working examples, starting from the simple ones that the student can solve. I will encourage repetition of working examples to build up confidence in the student.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will explain the basics of the skill in a language the student can understand.
