Trained in the classics and archaeology, I have a deep love for all kinds of learning. My primary tutoring focuses are the topics covered in the SAT, such as algebra, geometry, grammar, reading and English comprehension and writing. I also tutor Latin and public speaking.

By training I am an archaeologist of the Byzantine world. I hold a MA from Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. My research often looks at Byzantine medicine and hospitals. I have participated in archaeological excavations in both the U.S. and Turkey.

My undergraduate education, from Ball State University in Muncie, IN, focused upon archaeology as well - from the avenue of anthropology, but also classical languages. I therefore have a solid background in Latin (and Greek for that matter).

In my Greek courses at Koç University - where I may be the only native English speaker, I learned an important lesson about the value of classical languages; they allowed me to understand English grammar much better. Often in those classes, it was English, not Greek or Latin, that required the most intense scrutiny. This has provided an excellent background for approaching English grammar and comprehension.

In mathematics I am a true amateur (in the Latin sense - "amo, amare, amavi, amatus" to love). I had always been interested in math and have enjoyed returning to it to tutor. I have had success working with students particularly in algebra.

My tutoring philosophy is to built upon the way a student already is beginning to understand a subject. Often there are many ways to understand one subject; I feel it is important to reinforce the individual ways students learn in order to foster intellectual curiosity and independence.
