As a tutor, past teacher, and currently grad student, I love helping students succeed in school and in life. I specialize in helping students see learning as a process that can be joyful and engaging, no matter the subject. This leads to long-term gains in academic success, related to the attitudes and skills students gain in this process.
I am satisfied when my students not only surpass academic expectations in the short term, but also when they make it a habit for life.
I am happy to work with just about any student, especially those with test anxiety, concentration issues (such as those related to ADHD), and other mental or health concerns. One of my greatest strengths as a tutor and a teacher is helping students develop the skills to support inner well-being. This might include breathing and relaxation exercises, goal-setting, communication skills (whether with teacher or peers), psychological reframing exercises or other advice tailored to keep students focused and feeling at their best, ready to tackle what comes their way!
I am currently studying Chinese Medicine in Portland Oregon, at one of the best schools in the country, if not the world (we have students who travel from China to study here, as the quality of education is unmatched by schools over there!).
On the side, I love to practice Tai Chi and other martial arts, learn and practice new languages (fluent in German, working hard on Chinese), write books and articles, spent time in nature, make healthy and delicious food, play music, work on my YouTube channel, and spend time with my family. Most recently, I have started going by my middle name "Motoyuki," which means 'the essence of happiness' in Japanese.
