I am currently studying at Northeastern Illinois University where I am a Music Education major. My main instrument is the clarinet and I dream of one day becoming a high school band director. I am a presidential scholar and honors student with a 4.0 GPA. I am extremely dedicated and hard working, and will go out of my way to ensure my students excel in whatever subject area we are working on.

My interest in tutoring started in high school. I began working with students one on one before and after school. I helped with a wide variety of subjects ranging from music and writing to math and science. I've always loved helping others understand new concepts and watching a person's face light up when they finally understand a new concept. For me, it is one of the most satisfying things in the world. As the daughter of an English teacher, I have always valued education and have personally witnessed the positive impact that increased one-on-one attention can provide for students. I also have access to a personal, 24/7 teaching help hotline who has a masters degree in education and tons of experience with students at every level (aka my wonderful mother!) I tutor all of my subjects with passion, striving to make every session meaningful and fun.

My subjects are Music, General Music Theory or AP Music Theory, Clarinet, Math, Essay Writing and Editing at all levels, English, Writing, ESL, ISEE, SSAT, Test Prep, General Summer Tutoring/ Homework support, Study Skills, and Organization/Time Management.
My favorite subjects to tutor are Music, Writing, ESL, Homework Support, and Study Skills and Organization. I love these subjects because I feel I have helped students the most in these areas so far, but I do my very best to help my students succeed in every way possible, no matter the subject.

My teaching style is very hands-on and involved. I begin by assessing which way a student learns best and then tailor the material to fit their learning needs. As their skills and knowledge evolve, I evolve with them. We will work together to set goals and develop a plan to meet them in a reasonable time frame.

Outside of academia, my interests include playing with dogs (especially my little yorkie, Tessa), exploring the wonderful city of Chicago, listening to music, and traveling!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy includes challenging the student at just the right level so that they are stretched but not frustrated. Finding the sweet spot is key! We will work together to create a personalized learning plan, set achievable goals and work toward them!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would establish rapport, find out about the student's interests and learning style, and then begin diagnostic skill testing.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By employing an "I do, we do, you do" strategy and encouraging out-of-session practicing. By using interesting and engaging materials, games, or books, as well as conveying my passion for the various subjects, I can help a student want to learn independently.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by setting attainable goals, and by providing engaging and enjoyable materials and activities.
