Being passionate about what I tutor.

Ask the student what I can do to help him or her understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I reread the word(s) and define the word(s).
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Creating a positive relationship with the student.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would try to help them make a connection to it.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would ask them questions throughout the entire time we are learning something.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
You compliment them. Also, encouragement goes a long way.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By reflecting on the questions they ask.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I let them know that there is no such thing as a stupid question. I create a positive learning environment.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use the Internet: YouTube, Google, Wikipedia, etc.
