I am a Special Education Teacher who has worked with students from 1st grade through college. Being IEP knowledgeable and patient, I utilize a student's strengths and unique learning style to create individualized lessons and materials. Tutoring allows me to help students of differing abilities achieve their academic goals. Whether a student requires assistance in writing a 5 page essay or help with homework and organization, I am your tutor!

My favorite subjects to tutor are reading and writing and I thoroughly enjoy both. I love writing my thoughts on paper and have kept a personal journal since my high school days! Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I truly believe that good reading and writing skills are essential in helping a student succeed in school and life.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

All students are able to learn as long as there is desire.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I have the student highlight any word he/she does not understand. Using reading and vocabulary strategies and resources, we define each word. A student may also benefit from having the reading passage read aloud.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

To really understand how to help a student, get to know his/her needs, goals, strengths, and likes.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Let the student know what he/she does well. Always focus on the positive!
