Hellol, my name is Cassidy and I really hope you consider me as a tutor option for you. I have been tutoring for several years throughout my high school career. I started in eighth grade tutoring first graders in reading and grew to love working with children. Through the years I continued to tutor students ages 5-16 in reading, literature, elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra and several other subjects. As of right now, I am a sophomore at the University at Buffalo as a double major in Accounting and Math and I plan on being an accountant in the future. I have a love for working with students of all ages and I am a super flexible, easy going, determined and hard working person. I studied abroad my junior year in Denmark and studied danish culture and the danish language and I also graduated valedictorian of my high school class. These are just a few examples of how hard working and enthusiastic I am about new opportunities, especially when it comes to learning. I also am very interested in several different activities in my spare time. I love mountain biking, music, skiing, photography, drawing, hiking, swimming and anything having to do with the outdoors. I am especially interested in music. I play 11 instruments and listen to hundreds of bands. There's not a minute during the day where I'm not dancing around the room to music.

I also have an array of experience with every type of student and age group and I think that I have the near-perfect skill set to help a student thrive in their own set of circumstances, no matter what they may be. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can accomplish anything they try hard enough at. The only determinant of success is the amount of effort that someone puts into something and the rest comes after. I am an incredibly patient, understanding and relaxed person that will be dedicated to making sure you succeed in any subject we work on as well as succeeding in the classroom and developing study skills unique to you and your learning habits.I love working with people and I hope I get the chance to work with you. I hope you consider me in your search.

Thank you!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is that everyone is capable of anything! It is the effort that you put in that determines your success.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would sit down with them, and then get to know them and their way of learning so that I can do my best to teach them the best way for them.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by teaching them how to study on their own, and by helping them find out how they learn best.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would tell them that they are fully capable, and everyone needs to practice in order to do better.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would break the concept down and simplify it so that they can understand it better.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The strategies I find to be most successful are breaking down problems into smaller parts in order to understand the problem as a whole better. It is important to make sure every portion of the problem is understood.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Repetition and question asking are key in making sure a student understands a topic. Asking them what they think instead of handing over the information with no feedback is better because it ensures that the student is really grasping the subject matter and is engaging.
