I began my tutoring experience by working at a summer school as a teacher's assistant. It was a camp I attended as a child, and the reason I decided to work there was that one of my favorite teachers was teaching. I used the opportunity not just to teach, but to learn more under the wing of a great woman. After two summers, I went to college and volunteered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. There I was partnered with a fourth grader named Jashawn, we worked together on homework assignments and review, but I like to think he learned a little more than what was just prescribed in his curriculum. Finally, this previous year I have spent every Saturday working at the Saturday Academy, a program through our school's Upward Bound initiative. I tutor a group of students in AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, as well as college prep. I want to be able to teach you the information, not just walk you through problems. My approach may take longer, but I promise it is worth every second to truly understand a topic.
My favorite subjects to tutor are Calculus and Algebra. I have been working with and using Calculus and Algebra for my entire academic career, as well as taking supplemental courses on both in my free time. The reason I want to tutor and love to tutor is because I come from a family of educators, and the most influential person in my life was a teacher. Teachers have always been people I love, respect and look up to, so tutoring is my way of hopefully inspiring people just as much if not more than I was.
