I am an experienced certified teacher with over 15 years experience. Over the past 15 years, I have been fortunate to have the training and professional experiences that have allowed me to become skilled at assessing student abilities and then strategically designing and implementing effective research based instruction to increase student skills and success.

Many times students who perceive themselves as "poor students" actually have more skills than they realize and just need instruction in certain areas. 1-1 tutoring is the perfect setting to re-mediate these areas. The most rewarding part of my career is watching students realize potential, become empowered and experience success.

As my resume indicates, I have had the pleasure of being a certified classroom teacher for the past fifteen years. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education from Northern Kentucky University. I then earned my Masters in the Art of Teaching from University of South Florida. My experiences include: teaching elementary school in all subject areas, middle school in Language Arts and Reading, and special education. I am also an adjunct professor at a nearby university.

I am currently certified in Reading (K-12), Elementary Education (K-6), ESOL (K-12) (English Speakers of Other Languages), Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum(6-8), and Exceptional Student Education (K-12).

I currently teach Intensive Reading at the middle school level. I design and implement engaging, data driven instruction using research based strategies, technology, and formative assessments. I believe in interactive, personalized, and fun instructional strategies. I believe in scaffolding instruction in order for students to reach mastery through strategic steps without becoming frustrated and overwhelmed. I also believe (to borrow from Ralph Waldo Emerson) "The secret in education lies in respecting the student." Every person is unique, special and learns in his or her own way and it is my job to help match instruction to the student's personality, interests, and areas of strength.

In my spare time I enjoy playgrounds, pool days, and picnics with my family. I also enjoy reading, playing with my dogs, traveling, museums, sporting events, and going to the beach.
