Learning is a lifelong journey! I received my masters degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Literacy from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. I am certified to teach K-6 grade. While in college, I worked 4 summers at a children's museum with children from the ages of 4-8. I loved working at the children's museum and being able to use my imagination to teach Summer camps. I am currently a 5th grade teacher in Nebraska.I feel that it is beneficial for a student to be able to work one-on-one with their teacher in order to ask questions and feel comfortable investigating their learning. My main teaching passions are reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. I also enjoy teaching Elementary math.In my free time I enjoy reading chapter books. I love to read so much that I just recently finished reading a book called "Wildfire" by Rodman Philbrick! I also enjoy walking my dog named Lucy, attempting new recipes to cook, and traveling to new places.

PERSONAL STATEMENTI earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Drake University, Master's degrees in both Educational Administration and Special Education, and a doctorate from the University of the Nebraska at Omaha, NE.I tutor all elementary and middle school general education subjects and special education for those students as well. My favorite subjects to tutor are math, science, and social studies. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with our large extended family, spending time with our dog, reading, and traveling when I can. When I was a child, I always looked for role models and one of my elementary teachers, Mrs. John stepped up as a very influential figure in my life. Her personal interest helped me know I could be successful in life. I have tried to use the same inspiration I received so many years ago in my career in education for the past 40 years. As a teacher, I believe that a desire to teach, enthusiasm, and dedication for your subject are three key elements for teaching, but we must also care deeply for children. We must have the will to develop strong relationships with learners to enhance the learning process. As an experienced teacher, I am excited about the opportunity to continue to apply my skills as a tutor. I have face-to-face classroom experience at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have taught general and special education. I have taught face-to-face classes, hybrid, and on-line classes at the university level.I am enthusiastic about trying to influence my students by showing interest in them, being committed to developing relationships with them as learners, and by implementing teaching strategies to help them learn. In these ways, I hope to make learning memorable and transform the way they view their world.

In December of 2019,= I received a Bachelor of Science at the University of Nebraska at Kearney where I majored in Political Science and minored in Public Law. I focused primarily on international relations as well as domestic governance though I filled my plate with as much Composition and Philosophy as I could. After graduating, I owned and operated a successful business until closing it to pursue my true passion: Writing. Howdy Friends!Growing up with a brother who was a human encyclopedia, I learned from a young age that learning doesn't come to everyone at the same rate. However, I didn't let that keep me down. I went on to have a very successful academic (and now professional) career. I want to pay it forward and help those who may be struggling to learn about subjects that I love. Sometimes all it takes is a positive attitude and a new perspective!

Susie
MED University of Nebraska at Omaha

Hi, I'm Susie! I've been an educator for over 30 years as a classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and instructional coach and I've spent my career helping students become confident readers, writers, and learners. I work with students on reading, literacy, and science skills at every level: young readers learning to decode, middle schoolers building comprehension and writing skills, and students preparing for tests. I'm a two-time National Board Certified teacher with certifications in Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, and other proven, evidence-based reading methods, such as EBLI. My philosophy is simple: every student can learn to read and write well they just need instruction that matches how their brain works. I find exactly where a student is getting stuck and we build from there, step by step. Sessions with me are active, encouraging, and focused, because confidence is half the battle. I especially love working with students who've started to believe they're "just not a reader." I've watched hundreds of kids prove that wrong and I'd love to help your student do the same. Let's get started!
