My passion for mathematics stems from its universal application and the satisfaction of helping others overcome challenges in the subject. I specialize in tutoring K-12 mathematics, including topics such as algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. One of my favorite subjects to teach is algebra because it serves as a gateway to understanding more advanced concepts and builds critical thinking skills. My tutoring philosophy emphasizes patience, adaptability, and fostering a positive learning environment. I believe every student has the potential to excel with the right guidance and encouragement, and I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether it's breaking down complex problems into manageable steps or finding creative ways to explain concepts, I strive to make learning engaging and effective. Outside of academics, I enjoy exploring new technologies, coding, and working on personal projects that combine creativity with logic. These interests not only enhance my problem-solving abilities but also allow me to connect with students who share similar passions..
I have always been a reflective person, so when it comes to teaching I am one who reflects often, thoughtfully, and intuitively. I believe that when working with student it is essential to help each student become reflective and metacognitive about their own learning. If students are reflective in their learning process they will be able to advocate what they need to continue learning, they will be able to understand how to seek out knowledge, and they will become life-long learners as a result.
My goal is to inspire my students to become lifelong learners. My instructional style allows my classroom to be interactive; creating an experience that allows my students to enjoy learning and inspiring a greater desire to learn. The sessions are student-centered and revolve around determining the fundamentals that need to review to increase mastery of new topics. My ability to mentor and develop the skills necessary for my students to be successful. My instructional experience includes working in K-12 for over nine years. The experience includes teaching Algebra I and Personal Finance in high school. Middle school and elementary teaching experience include; English, English as a Second Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies.Knowledge gained in my undergraduate program in Marketing from Georgia State University, Masters from Grand Canyon University in Elementary Education, and my current coursework to earn a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University will serve as an asset for in this tutoring program. My career experience demonstrates my natural drive to be innovative, a critical thinker, responsible leader, and effective communicator. My unmistakable determination to make a difference in the world of education, my community, the United States, and the world will be evident by my efforts and work in this program.
Learning Spanish from a young age has allowed me to see the world from an entirely new cultural lens and, more importantly, has enabled me to view American or Western culture from an outside point of view. Doing so has made me realize that the United States does not put enough emphasis on learning a second language, specifically Spanish. As a result, we are limited in how we see and interact with the world and other nations.I wish to take my experience studying Spanish and completing a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish to help others explore Hispanic culture by studying the Spanish language. I would concentrate on teaching grammar, with an emphasis on its communicate and conversational application, Spanish conversation, and critically analyze both American and Hispanic cultures as a whole to be able to draw distinctions and gain awareness about their own cultural lens. Furthermore, I wish to draw on my experiences with my TEFL certification, such as creating and carrying out lesson plans about teaching English, towards creating authentic, relevant lesson activities for tutoring Spanish so that they can reinforce and relate to the content they may have gone over in class. Lastly, my experience working in customer service and with children as a chess coach has given me valuable interpersonal skills which I use to be able to connect with students and focus on strengthening the learning strategy that works for them.

I began my career in education as a tutor. As a college student at Howard, I woke up early on Saturdays to work with my small group in math. While I can't say that I loved waking up early, I loved working with my kids! After that I was hooked. Helping students feel brilliant was something I had to do every day!So, after I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors in Business Administration, I received my Masters from Georgia State University in Early Childhood Education. I taught 5th grade math, science and writing. I then transitioned into working with struggling students in small group and coaching teachers. I love giving my teachers strategies to help students feel smart. While coaching teachers is my role, I never stopped tutoring because there's nothing like hearing my kids shout "Ohhhhh!" after doing math they never thought they could handle. I think most kids struggle in math because they think they can't memorize all the steps. I work hard to help students find strategies that make sense to them. When my students see that there are so many ways to get to the answer, they become mathematicians. When I'm not teaching, I am building towers or playing train sets with my toddler! We have a blast. I love singing. I prefer to be curled up with a good book over shopping. I enjoy dinner with friends or my husband. Game nights are my favorite. When the weather warms up, my favorite place to be is the beach or the pool. Love being in the water!I'm looking forward to working with you. Can't wait to help you see how smart you truly are!

I challenge my students to think complexly in ways they generally have not been challenged to think before, and I refuse to give answers. I truly believe every student can rise to any challenge given proper guidance, and I feel they can see I truly believe in their abilities. My job as a tutor is to guide my students in their development and show them strategies to become better readers, writers, and thinkers independently, not to show them where commas go.I am not a boring English teacher who expects students to love everything I put in front of them. I've been a teacher and a tutor for years, and I haven't yet come close to settling on a subject. I've taught everything from graduate level economics to elementary school reading to test prep to music composition. I've taught businessmen, teenagers, and a classroom full of 10 year olds. And I've gotten results every time. I strongly believe in the power of personalized education, tailored for the individual student and human being. When I'm not tutoring, I spend most of my time on my two indie rock bands, in which I play guitar and bass and write many of the songs. I also like to take my dog, Mac, on walks around my neighborhood of Grant Park.
I am a current student at Georgia State University and also a paraprofessional for Fulton County Schools. I will receive my Bachelor of Arts in Middle Level Education with a minor in Count. I have worked tutoring children in Georgia for the "No Child Left Behind" program; worked as an after school teacher for three years tutoring students in elementary schools; taught students as a paraprofessional currently for four years; tutored students in English/Language Arts and Math for three years. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Math. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the exams. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that which enriches my life, yoga, running, and watching sports all day.
Quite simply my passion is literature: I hold two degrees in creative writing (a B.F.A. and an M.A.) and write poetry, fiction, critical essays, and creative non-fiction. While completing my masters from 2012-2014, I tutored students at my university's writing center. It was there that I discovered another of my passions: helping students who are eager to learn. My profoundly meaningful experience as a tutor led me to join Varsity after graduation.I believe in the importance of writing correctly, expressively, and effectively. Being able to express oneself precisely is vital for students of all disciplines, and indeed for all people who are involved in the difficult process of navigating human relationships. Achieving this precision, however, easier said than done. As a tutor, I am committed to helping students express themselves with as much creativity and uninhibitedness as possible while also staying true to the constraints of the English language. I believe that I am able to do this by employing the conversational method of pedagogy: asking questions, prodding students to push themselves creatively and intellectually, and attending to the details of their written work. By submitting ourselves to this process, we not only improve the quality of the essay, we improve as writers, thinkers, and communicators.
I believe I am building the future, one student at a time. I pursued a Master's Degree in Accounting at GA State University in 2016 even though I had a great job and had been working for over fifteen years. That is how passionate I am about learning and education. And while in graduate school, I made friends with several new students taking higher level courses with me in order to meet the requirements to take the CPA exam. And these friendships lead to growth and wisdom for many of us. While I taught them Accounting from a real world perspective, they taught me Technology. Tutoring and mentoring these students brought me great satisfaction because I truly believe that a solid educational foundation leads to confidence and success at work and in life. It then became my passion to tutor students in Accounting, not just to get good grades, or pass the CPA exam, but to use that knowledge to achieve their goals at work as well. My tutoring style is tailored to the individual with an emphasis on their objectives. I also work part time educating and supporting small businesses with their Accounting and Quickbooks questions.
I am a graduate of both Spelman College and Georgia State University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and completed the teacher certification program as well. I went on to complete a Master of Education degree and a Educational Specialist degree, both in School Psychology. Since graduation, I have taught extensively, teaching in both the private and public-school setting; English as a second language (ESL) on-line to children and adults living in China, Taiwan, and Japan; and tutoring elementary students in the United States through an online guided reading program; as well as serving as a learning coach for my children enrolled in a top-rated virtual school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Reading, Writing, and Study/Organizational Skills. I truly see helping people across the country and world learn to read, write, and speak English fluently, as a unique and rewarding experience.I feel honored to be able to serve in this capacity and intend to work hard to inspire each student that I work with to nurture a life-long love of learning. Furthermore, I believe that task-based learning in ESL helps to provide students with a natural context in which to acquire new skills. It focuses on the true needs of the students rather than simply a predetermined learning objective. I am a strong component of the communicative approach to language learning and believe that true learning can take place when it is led by student experiences.
