About Me

I am a detailed and straightforward person who enjoys calligraphy. My first introduction to anything calligraphy was Japanese Calligraphy. Before I could brush strokes of ink across rice paper, I had to learn how to grind my own ink, hold the brush properly, and learn the order of the strokes. The process was more important than the goal, and mediocrity was not an option. This also describes my tutoring style and how I teach. I believe that learning is a process where order guides yet the target moves. To master math, learning to add makes learning to multiply easier. When challenged, return to the point where you understood, make adjustments, and methodically proceed. This reminds me of my struggles at Georgia State University, where I later received my Bachelor of Arts in English. I missed some stepping stones to writing quality essays. Not knowing what I needed to do to create quality essays, I went back to the basics. I sought help from the best and spent many hours writing and rewriting. Giving up was not an option. Not giving up was how I met my first student, an adult with whom I shared a birthday. Since then, I have worked with students from Pre-K to adults, including homeschoolers, immigrants, and refugees in schools, churches, and courts.
