I am currently a 4th year Astrophysics student at George Mason University. Being passionate about math and physics, I enjoy seeing others understand and grasp the subjects. I believe everyone learns in their own different way, and so I make it my mission to cater to whoever I'm tutoring. I like to be laid-back as I know students can be stressed, which makes it hard to learn. Questions are always encouraged and there should be no worry about a 'wrong' answer. That's how we learn. In my free time, you can find me playing the guitar or working on my car. I'm also a massive Spurs fan, so you can catch me getting some English banter.

Hi there! My name is Nikki and I am going into my 7th year of education. I value one-on-one academic and personal mentor-ship with students to help unleash and connect them to their full potential.Fun facts: I just got married March 2017 (and I'm loving it!), I am originally from the East Coast and I LOVE snickers candy bars. Can't wait to get connected :)
I have my bachelor's degree in Integrative Studies and Leadership and a master's degree in Secondary Education specializing in Social Studies. Both degrees are from George Mason University and I've been teaching for 5 years. I'm passionate about helping students because education is empowering. Being able to support students in their learning journey and witnessing their growth and development brings me immense joy. Education opens doors, fosters critical thinking, and equips individuals with the tools they need to navigate the world. In my experience working with students, I've found it incredibly rewarding to see them overcome challenges, grasp new concepts, and become more confident in their abilities. Whether it's through tutoring, mentoring, or providing guidance, being able to contribute positively to a student's academic and personal growth is fulfilling beyond measure. I love teaching Social Studies because it involves critical thinking and make connections over centuries. It involves more then just history- law, government, psychology, sociology, seeing patterns over time and growth of human society. We also get to talk about cultures, real world relevance and promote civic engagement. My teaching philosophy to get students responsible for their own learning and fill in the gaps and explain things in a way that makes social studies fun.
Hello, I am a math and science assistant teacher for middle school special education students. I am a graduate student at George Mason University in the process of attaining my teaching license. I became a tutor because I believe it is important for students to build a strong foundation at a young age and for some students, that is done best outside of a traditional classroom. Prior to working for Varsity Tutors, I worked as an instructor at Mathnasium, and as a freelance tutor for a few years. I have experience working with students from elementary through high school, and primarily focus on math. My goal as a tutor is to give the student the understanding and confidence to be able to solve problems without assistance so I try to allow them to think through solutions on their own and provide assistance when necessary rather than simply giving answers.
Working as a teacher and tutor has been my goal since childhood. Following in my mother's footsteps, I began working with children at a young age and have not stopped since. I attended Eastern Connecticut State University and received a Bachelor's in English along with a Secondary teaching certificate. I then went to George Mason University and received my Master's in Linguistics with a TESL certification. I have always loved school, which allows me to instill that joy in my students to get them motivated. I believe in a comfortable and communicative environment for my students to thrive in. A main focus in my ESL teaching philosophy is to allow the transition from my sessions to a new environment, such as their school classroom, as easy as possible. Providing students with comfort in the language, speaking skills, and range of motivating activities will prepare them for this transition. The same idea can be applied with SAT prep. The main focus in my sessions to get students comfortable with taking the test. While your student will work hard and learn a lot, I will never put unnecessary pressure on them. I understand that every student has a different learning style and I will adjust to them to alleviate any pressure they feel.
I'm a cultural historian and doctoral candidate who tutors AP U.S., European, and World History, as well as writing. I am an intellectually curious, patient, and highly adaptive tutor who believes that the most effective learning happens when students understand how they think, not just what they get right or wrong. My approach centers on meeting students where they areacademically, cognitively, and personallyand helping them develop confidence, independence, and analytical clarity. I place strong emphasis on identifying each student's learning style and using that awareness to tailor explanations, examples, and practice. Rather than simply correcting mistakes, I encourage students to analyze why an answer didn't work and to recognize what they did correctly in the process. This reflective approach helps students build durable skills, not just short-term performance improvements. In English and humanities subjects, I guide students to engage deeply with texts by focusing on what the author actually providesobjects, events, characters, language choices, and implicationsrather than relying on vague impressions or memorized interpretations. I help students learn how to support their ideas with evidence, think critically about meaning, and articulate their insights clearly and confidently. I am calm, supportive, and structured in my teaching style, while also encouraging curiosity and independent thought. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but to help them become more self-aware learners who trust their reasoning, take intellectual risks, and feel capable of growth.

I focus on building a supportive, engaging environment that encourages curiosity and critical thinking. My goal is to help students not only master the material but also gain confidence in themselves. In my spare time, I like going to parks, painting and reading books.

I worked as an instructor for full semester college courses for freshman for 2 years before starting my master's and enjoy coaching students through the transition from high school to college. I currently tutor in subjects such as statistics, psychology, research, essay editing, and more. I particularly love helping students problem solve in take-home assignments, editing papers, and creating school projects.
