As an aspiring physician currently pursuing my Bachelor's in Physiology and Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona, I am passionate about empowering students to achieve their academic and personal aspirations. With over 5 years of tutoring experience across a diverse range of subjects including ACT, SAT, AP exams, and college application essays. I have developed a keen understanding of the unspoken rules that govern these assessments. My approach is student-centered and adaptive; I tailor my strategies to meet individual learning styles, whether that means incorporating engaging games for those with attention challenges or allowing self-directed learners to guide our sessions. Having recently navigated the same academic landscape as my students, I am intimately familiar with the pressures they face, and I strive to demystify the testing process. I am particularly excited about tutoring AP Biology, AP Calculus, and college applications, as these areas require not just content mastery but also strategic insight into what admissions officers are truly seeking. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy cooking, 3D printing, and weightlifting, all of which enrich my perspective and foster a supportive learning environment. Ancora Imparo. The recent years have illustrated just how important this attitude is. Of accepting that no person, even given our extended lifetimes, can ever master every discipline. That there is wisdom in seeking to improve, but folly in expecting domination of any field of knowledge. The very best and wisest of us have survived the past two years not only due to cunning or intelligence, but adaptability and flexibility. And although I have been involved with teaching since 2013 and tutoring since 2001, it was not until 2018 that I began to experiment with online teaching of one-on-one clients via Skype, experiments that helped me to be ready and adaptable when my entire industry needed to entertain the shift in February of 2020. Ancora Imparo. Still, I am learning. Life will teach you new things, if you first agree that new perspectives are possible. A mind functions best when it's open to new ideas.

Linear Algebra Tutor • +19 Subjects
As a second-year Computing Science student at the University of Alberta, I've developed a strong analytical foundation that complements my passion for mathematics. For the past two years, I've had the opportunity to tutor students ranging from 1st grade through second-year university, helping them master concepts from basic arithmetic to advanced calculus. I tutor all levels of math, including standardized test prep like the SAT, where I scored in the 99th percentile for the Math section. What drives me as a tutor is seeing students gain confidence in their abilities. I believe that every student learns differently, so I focus on adapting my teaching style to suit individual needs whether that means breaking down complex problems into simple steps, using visual aids, or offering real-world examples. My goal is to make math approachable and even enjoyable, especially for students who may have struggled with it in the past. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy building software projects, exploring AI tools, and solving logic puzzles. I'm passionate about continuous learning and love sharing that enthusiasm with my students to help them reach their academic goals.

Embarking on the journey of education can be an exciting and equally anxiety provoking endeavor. There are many exams to take, projects to complete, and deadlines to meet. This is in no way an easy journey but it is a worthwhile one. A journey that will see you grow into your true potential. Whenever you gain a new piece of understanding of the world around you, your perception of the world forever changes, you see things you could not see before. This is a magical process; my life is dedicated to facilitating this process for others. I began my own journey of higher education with the Biological Sciences. During my third year of college I constantly found myself in a position where I was helping my peers understand the material and I realized that I thoroughly enjoyed doing this. I began working as a tutor at my college and then worked as a teaching assistant in the Gross Anatomy and Cell Biology Labs. From there I went to medical school in Brooklyn, NY. During medical school I continued developing my passion for teaching. Running tutoring sessions for my peers and underclassmen, organizing a medical education and exposure program for high school students known as HPREP, creating educational materials in the form of video demonstrations, and eventually being hired as an adjunct professor of Gross Anatomy for the Occupational Therapy program at Downstate Medical Center. I am currently in the medical education track at my school and in training to become a full-time faculty member after graduating. My teaching style is focused on meeting the student where they are. I always begin assessing the current knowledge base and level of understanding so I can have a good idea of where to start. From there we will work together and I will adapt my teaching style according to how the student best assimilates knowledge. I take pride in being adaptable and flexible. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I would be excited to obtain the opportunity to work with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who specialize in preparing for a wide range of professional certifications, including IT certifications (CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft), project management (PMP, CAPM), finance and accounting (CPA, CFA), healthcare credentials (NCLEX, pharmacy technician), and many others. Tutors can work with you on exam-specific content, test-taking strategies, and practice problems tailored to your certification's format and requirements.
One-on-one instruction allows tutors to identify exactly where you're struggling and adapt their teaching to fill those gaps, rather than having you spend time on concepts you already understand. Personalized tutoring also provides accountability, structured study plans, and the ability to ask questions immediately when you're confused. Research on learning shows that individualized instruction significantly accelerates progress compared to self-study alone.
Preparation timelines vary widely depending on your starting knowledge, the specific certification, and how frequently you meet with your tutor. Some certifications require 2-3 months of focused study, while others may take 6+ months. Your tutor can assess your baseline knowledge and create a realistic timeline with specific milestones, helping you stay on track to meet your certification deadline.
Yes. Tutors work with students at all knowledge levels, from those brand-new to a field to those with substantial experience. If you're making a career transition, your tutor can start with foundational concepts and progressively build your knowledge toward certification-level competency. This scaffolded approach helps you develop both the conceptual understanding and practical skills needed to succeed on your exam and in your new role.
Effective strategies include breaking complex topics into smaller, manageable pieces; using practice exams repeatedly to identify weak areas; and spacing out your study sessions over time rather than cramming. A tutor helps by explaining difficult technical concepts in ways that stick, creating focused practice plans, and providing feedback on your progress. This combination of targeted instruction and strategic practice leads to stronger retention and better exam performance.
Your tutor can help you assess readiness through practice exams, diagnostic reviews, and honest conversations about your confidence level. Most certification exams have published study guides and pass rates you can reference. A good benchmark is consistently scoring at or above the passing threshold on full-length practice tests under exam conditions. Your tutor can also help you decide if you need more preparation time or if you're ready to schedule your exam.
Varsity Tutors works with tutors across many industries and certification types. If you're preparing for a specialized certification, reach out with details about the exam and field—tutors often have expertise in niche areas, and we may be able to connect you with someone who's a great fit. Even if a direct specialist isn't available, tutors skilled in related subjects can often help you master the material and exam strategies.
