ACCUPLACER Prep Tutor • +7 Subjects

I received my Bachelor's of Science from Arizona State University. I have a true love and devotion for the subject of math, specifically algebra. There is nothing like it out there. I love tutoring this and would like to help you or your child get to the point of love for the subject and if not love then at least to understanding. I have tutored basic arithmetic, beginning, intermediate, and even college algebra at the junior high, high school and college level. I have also run my own classroom review sessions and made my "magical info board" that students seem to really appreciate. The best and brightest memory I have today is when a student only really required five minutes of my help and we were able to identify her very specific point of lack of connection. She told me that day that I "made the light bulb turn on." If I can do that only in five minutes, imagine what is possible in longer than that! I hope to be able to help you and your algebra student along the math journey!

I currently attend the University of Pittsburgh and have almost completed a double major in Biological Sciences and Spanish with a minor in Chemistry. In high school, I also completed the International Baccalaureate program and completed some AP classes as well. My career plans are to go to medical school and become a physician. I have scored A's in all my classes, so I hope to help you score well in your classes as well! I mainly specialize in tutoring any type of Biology, Chemistry, Human Physiology, or Spanish course. I also tutor for standardized tests, such as the SAT and the MCAT. I recently took the MCAT and scored very high on the science sections (132 Psych, 131 Chem/Phys, 129 Bio), so I would be a good resource for MCAT material as well.In terms of tutoring experience, I am a Teaching Assistant at my university in various biology and chemistry courses. I have also taught guitar and piano lessons at my studio. I specialize in classical piano and guitar and also flamenco guitar, but I can definitely teach the basics of those instruments or other genres.

I am a graduate of The George Washington University in Washington DC. I received my Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering with minors in Computer Science and Economics. I also received my Master of Science in Engineering Management with a concentration in Crisis Emergency and Risk Management. During both my undergraduate and graduate experiences, I often tutored my classmates and helped them with challenging subjects like Calculus and Physics. Since graduation, I have helped coworkers who were going back to school with subjects like Pre-algebra and Algebra. I am passionate about math and helping students establish a solid foundation in pre-algebra and algebra. I am willing to patiently work with students – explaining topics from multiple perspectives – to ensure we build a strong base. I believe that foundation not only makes a student successful in the current class but enables him or her to do well in future advanced math classes (e.g., calculus). In my spare time, I enjoy reading (especially dystopian literature!), traveling, running, exercising, spending time with my family and watching college football.

I spent this past year guiding elementary students through their online learning experience. I am passionate about educating young students and creating an environment where they feel confident. I understand the frustration and emotion that comes with school and approach each student with patience and understanding. I believe everyone can be successful in school and I am here to help make that happen.

ACT Math Tutor • +11 Subjects

I am a junior Computer Science major in the College of Engineering at Cornell University. I have experience tutoring in the National Honor Society in high school, as well as on numerous occasions with acquaintances of mine who were struggling and needed a hand. I tutor high school computer science especially in java and python, as well as algebra (1 & 2) and calculus 1. I love tutoring the math subjects especially, because I feel very comfortable with the subjects and enjoy abstracting them in different ways to help any individual. I believe that success in education is key to building a great life for oneself, and that any person can succeed with the proper work ethic and support network. Even more, I love to see when people I have helped are successful, regardless of area of life. In my spare time, I love to follow college football and basketball and talk about games.

I recently graduated from Adelphi University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Playwriting Emphasis), and I have a B.S. in Theater from Black Hills State University. I moved around a lot as a child, and I have lived in eight different states including Florida, California, Ohio and South Dakota. I tutor a variety of English-related subjects. I love all aspects of reading and writing, but I have a special fondness for grammar and mechanics. I like to think of punctuation as musical notation, and I love the process of figuring out which words and symbols best serve what I am trying to say. Writing is an agent for self-expression, and I am passionate about helping students to master it. The way that I go about this is dependent on each student's personal strengths, which I asses and then build upon. In addition to tutoring, I also teach Creative Writing and English Composition at Adelphi University. In my spare time, I love to explore NYC. I see as much theater as I can fit into my schedule. I also love visiting the city's museums and parks.

College Level American History Tutor • +9 Subjects

I am a graduate of The University of Northern Iowa. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with a focus on European History. Since graduation I have had the opportunity to work in the Museum Field, focusing on education and programming. I've completed several research projects that were turned into published work on World War II and the Holocaust. I've also had the pleasure of tutoring off and on with students off all ages. While I tutor on a broad range of subjects I am most passionate about History and English. In my experience helping students struggling to understand a subject or find enjoyment in the subject is the most rewarding outcome. I believe education and learning is the most important thing in a person's life and the tools you learn in school is what helps shape the person you become. Each person has a different learning style, and I try to help cultivate that while we work on the student's educational needs. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, swimming, spoiling my sassy Brindle puppy, genealogy, and trying to learn French.

I’m here to help you achieve success in Mathematics. I’ve been a high school math teacher and a high school basketball coach since I graduated college. I became a teacher because I wanted to be useful to students and help them grow. I’ve taught everything from freshman algebra to junior pre-calculus and I’ve recognized that the key to helping students learn is patience and motivation. Every student has a capacity for success and I’m looking forward to working with you to maximize your potential. Whether you are a student who has struggled with math since the beginning or if you are a top student in your class, I believe there is always room for growth and you get there by being focused and having direction. I love what I do, I do it with care, and I’d love to help you achieve your goals.

I am a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania likely majoring in Sociology and minoring in Statistics. I have tutored students of all ages in a range of subjects, primarily math or standardized testing related. I worked at an SAT camp for two summers, including this past summer, so I am familiar with the new SAT. I have tutored students in all the subjects on the SAT. I have also worked with elementary students on basic math and reading comprehension and early high school students on Algebra I and geometry. I love working with students to help them get to the point where they are able to stand on their own two feet; my favorite part is probably when they are confident enough in their own abilities that they no longer need me!
