As an experienced educator entering my 24th year in the field, my current role involves teaching high school science at The St. Anthony School in Carrollton, Texas, a specialized therapeutic school dedicated to supporting students with special education needs. In this environment, I deliver comprehensive instruction in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science, adapting curricula to meet diverse learning requirements and promote academic growth. This position builds on a long history of educational involvement, including my recent retirement from a 23-year coaching career in basketball, golf, football, soccer, track, and cross country at both middle and high school levels. These experiences have honed my ability to motivate and guide young people, emphasizing teamwork, resilience, and personal development alongside academic achievement.
My academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University, which has equipped me with strong skills in communication, team management, and strategic planning essential for effective tutoring. While I am proficient and comfortable tutoring across all four core subjects (Math, English, Science, and Social Studies), my most recent four years of classroom teaching have deepened my expertise in Science and Social Studies. This allows me to provide targeted, up-to-date support in these areas, drawing from real-world applications and current pedagogical best practices.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is a commitment to helping students attain their educational goals by tailoring instruction to their unique strengths and challenges. I believe that learning thrives in an environment of trust and encouragement, where students feel empowered rather than overwhelmed. My tutoring style reflects this by focusing on comfort and accessibility: I employ varied approaches such as visual aids, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions to address subjects where students may be struggling. Additionally, I have successfully integrated diverse technologies, including educational software, virtual simulations, and online resources, to clarify complex concepts and align with lesson objectives. This multifaceted method not only enhances comprehension but also builds long-term confidence and independence in learning.
Throughout my career, I have witnessed the transformative impact of personalized education, particularly for students in special education settings. For instance, in my science classes, I often use adaptive tools like digital lab simulations to make abstract topics tangible, ensuring that every student grasps key principles regardless of their starting point. This approach extends to tutoring, where I assess individual needs early on and adjust strategies accordingly, whether breaking down algebraic equations in Math, analyzing literary themes in English, exploring historical events in Social Studies, or conducting virtual experiments in Science.
Passionate about education, I look forward to partnering with you to help your student succeed and build confidence in their studies.
