I am a Ph.D. graduate of from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and an M.Sc. graduate of K.U. Leuven, Belgium, in water resources engineering. I received my Bachelor of Science in Land Resources Management and Environmental Protection from Mekelle University, Ethiopia. With over fifteen years of experience in several challenging academic and research roles, I have developed a robust understanding of water resources engineering, integrated water resources management, modeling, GIS and remote sensing applications, climate change, land use change, and extreme value analysis. I have proficient experience in utilizing and implementing engineering concepts and modeling tools. Skilled in data analysis, exploratory, visualization, and summarization. Proficient in water problem-solving and scripting using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Python, R, Google Earth Engine (GEE), and implementing different algorithms for water resources modeling. My high level academic journey and research along with my professional growth and experience have equipped me with the expertise to oversee complex water resources modeling and management projects, advance in programming skills, effectively communicate with researchers and stakeholders, lead interdisciplinary teams and projects, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students. Extensive skills in higher education teaching, scientific paper and technical reports writing, publications, and reviewing.
I have extensively taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students from Africa, Europe, and USA that taught me how to handle students with different backgrounds, cultures, diversities, and learning paces. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about earth and water science, environmental science, engineering, data science, and programming. In my experience, helping and tutoring struggling students prepare for their successes and achieve their dreams, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the researching, writing, and publishing of water-related issues. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading that enriches my life, playing with my family, going to church, and playing/watching soccer.
