I like to focus on recognizing patterns. I stress upon understanding concepts that needs to be understood, and in the long term limiting just memorization.

The trick to mastering USMLE Step 1 is finding uniqueness, and be able to distinguish one disorder from another.

Its like detective work, and its fun when you master the materials.
