Hi! I'm Joe, but some of my friends call me Rocco. I recently graduated from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study in May of 2021, where I crafted an Individualized Concentration in Equitable Applied Psychology with a co-minor in Public Policy & Management. While attending NYU, I helped craft a mental heath startup with Dr. Lloyd Sederer MD (the former Mental Health Commissioner of NYC) and Dr. Deepak Penesetti MD (board member of American Psychiatric Association), did microbiology research at NYU Langone, and achieved my license in Bartending from the American Bartending School. Serving in service roles ranging from lifeguarding and tutoring at age fourteen through my experience as a bartender, server, and event host in my more recent years, I've learned what it means to effectively communicate with those of all walks of life and ultimately engage with almost all types of people.
In terms of academics, I specialize in three major areas:
1. Standardized Test preparation: After achieving a 34 on the ACT, I have been able to help many other students increase their scores through test preparation, time conditioning to minimize lost time during the actual test, and shortcuts to remember key pieces of information.
2. Writing, Reading, and English: throughout my undergraduate career, I learned how to research, plan, and execute writing prompts using various classifications of sources. I have been editing my peer's papers since high school and find great joy in helping others elevate their writing and reading skills! I can help with structuring essays for courses, applying to undergraduate programs, and much more!
3. Science & Math: Primarily algebra, calculus, biology, and chemistry. I was pre-med for a bit in college and also am familiar with the AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology curricula as I took all of them in high school and continued on that foundation during my undergraduate
I have been studying over the past 6 years to ultimately become a mental health professional specializing in methods of communication, language and information acquisition, and child development. After studying and teaching the subjects mentioned above, I am confident that I can work alongside hardworking students to elevate their understanding of complex ideas and ultimately thrive in academic spaces!
