I am a certified Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher. I have been teaching since 1973. In that time I have taught Pre-K through 12 DHH as an itinerant - going from building to building in a school district, a DHH class with mainstreaming students into general education, and have co-taught with general education teachers 2nd - 12th. Before I started teaching, I worked in a psychiatric situation with DHH adolescents and adults and as a Houseparent in a residential Deaf School. After I started teaching, I also have tutored students K - 12. Due to these work situations, I have developed strong teaching skills in reading, writing, and math. I guide students to look at their work and to break the task apart to do the work step by step. In that way, they can learn how to do that on their own when faced with new material, and to be confident that they are improving their own skills as they continue. I also suggest ways to put what they have learned in a way they can then review those notes in preparation for testing.
