Growing up I was never really a strong math student and frequently had to be tutored from 8th grade to my senior year of high school. It was a struggle to get through pre-algebra and then later on trigonometry and then pre-calculus. Tutoring helped me to get through most of my high school career and made me feel more apt to solve problems and tackle challenges.
I am passionate about working with students because I feel a calling towards it mainly because I have been exposed to a myriad of different teaching styles and because I know what it's like to be tutored as well. My largest value is altruism and being compassionate towards those around me, and I feel that tutoring and teaching is a way of giving back and helping others to achieve their academic goals.
I graduated Xavier High School in 2018 and am currently enrolled in SUNY New Paltz as an Economics major. I plan to become an Economics teacher/professor or a business journalist in the future. The subjects I enjoy teaching are Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Financial Accounting, General Business, and Elementary School Math. My prior experiences include tutoring Elementary School Math and English abroad in Central and South America and currently teaching Financial Accounting and Microeconomics at my college.
One of my main methods of teaching is first gauging short term goals, what the student would like to learn by the end of their sessions and then further engaging them by relating and applying their interests to economics/business related questions. After all, economics has a lot of overlap with finance and business and structures much of the modern world.
Outside of academia, I enjoy reading Economics literature, playing basketball or bowling, and writing.
