As a student, writer, and editor, I've grown to appreciate the importance of effective communication and writing. How people approach writing varies depending on context, and I've noticed that when it comes to academic writing, students often struggle with things like reaching word counts, formatting documents to APA or MLA, grammar, fully answering prompts, avoiding plagiarism, and accurately citing sources. While academic writing isn't difficult, it takes time, technique, and experience to master. With my experience writing, editing, and consulting on countless academic documents (term papers, master theses, doctoral dissertations, etc.), I yearn to bridge the gap between academic writing standards and the experience needed to meet those standards.
I've tutored writing to students from different regions around the world for more than four years, and I've written and edited professionally for more than five years. I earned a bachelor's in journalism and a second bachelor's in economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in 2019. I earned a master's in law and public policy from California University of Pennsylvania (Cal U) in 2021. Throughout my academic career, I worked as a journalist for a variety of news publications and copy edited for my university's student-run newspaper. As copy editor, I held weekly writing workshops where I gave personalized, one-on-one lessons to each of our journalists to improve their writing skills. In graduate school, I continued teaching concepts of formatting, grammar, style, and syntax during my graduate assistantship at Cal U's writing center.
Although I love tutoring things like how to format documents, answer prompts, approach literature reviews, conduct research, etc. My favorite subjects are grammar and syntax. Some people consider these subjects dull, but they excite me to no end, and I will happily chat for hours about simple grammatical principles.
Besides nerding out about grammar, when I'm outside the academic environment, I enjoy outdoor sports such as hiking, kayaking, caving, and rock climbing. I also enjoy traveling and photography.
