I am a graduate of more than one prestige institution in the Caribbean namely. My last graduation in Jamaica was from the University of the West Indies, where I majored in Mathematics Education.
Since graduation I have traveled to several places, where I have taught in various secondary level schools and as such, I have acquired experiences and learning strategies to better help in meeting the varying needs of my students,
One year I had a unique experience at the high school my older daughter attended in Rock Hill, South Carolina because of her unique aptitude to learning and the support coming from us as parents, her assistant principal hired me to tutor a group of seniors who needed help to graduate during the summer. This was a great privilege especially since at the time, I was just a parent, not a teacher in that school district.
I generally get along with my students they think I'm cool. I am aware of most of the jargon's teenagers use and I have most or if not all of the social media accounts known, like twitter , Instagram, Facebook, house party and tik tok. I aspire to be relevant and effective when working with youths.
I am passionate about helping students because I remember as a student, the difficulties I had when I didn't understand something, and I wasn't able to get the help that was needed and how that made me feel. My mission is to help my students, so that they would never have to feel that level of frustration.
I believe young people are at an excellent stage of development and with the precise support from experts, then this process becomes much easier and society will flourish, compromising of well-adjusted individuals.
I have been a student for many years and it's from elementary school experience that I can recall a moment in time when my older sister, who is a decade older than I got her current job as a nurse because her supervisor at the time remembered when I use to tutor and her in elementary school. I've been very good at math from my elementary years as far as I can remember being in school and I believe this has influenced my Passion for mathematics education until now.
My education started at home and I went to school very early because, I would cry to go with my older siblings, that were seven, ten and eleven years older. My Caribbean family is very passionate about education, especially in its ability to lay a firm foundation for our children's development. I am the educator I am today, owing of this philosophy of life
I went to high school from the 5th grade and two years after graduating high school in the top ten percent, I got the privilege to attend teacher's college in Kingston, Jamaica. I got married two years after graduation. We have two beautiful girls, who do well academically and socially. I have been a certified teacher for the last twenty-five years.
My favorite subject to tutor is math because math comes naturally to me and I love working out math problems, mentally. Mathematics is a great skill to acquire, especially because of the added benefits of being critical thinkers and problem solvers.
