I did my undergraduate work at the University of Illinois where I completed the pre-pharmacy program with a Bachelors in Science. I then attended the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy where I received a Doctorate in Pharmacy. I finished up with a Masters in Management at National Louis University. My tutoring experience includes helping students and my children with statistics, chemistry, Algebra I and II and Geometry. I also taught my children how to read with the use of hooked on phonics. My eldest daughter is Autistic and I was able to teach her how to read with Hooked on Phonics where the school was unsuccessful. I love tutoring students and seeing the excitement when the light bulb of understanding shines in them. This gives me satisfaction and a sense of self accomplishment. My favorite subject is chemistry but I also enjoy to tutor Algebra and Geometry. My interests include fishing, camping, hiking, investing, tutoring and words with friends. I believe students need to understand what they are learning so they can retain it rather then memorizing just to obtain an "A" at all costs. I have learned that this is a great quick fix but has long term consequences. Memorized information is easily forgotten whereas concepts and how they relate to one life endures a lifetime. It is my goal that the student gains success in their academic endeavors as a result of understanding the concepts not memorizing information. This was my approach throughout my academic career and it proved to be very successful. In the final analysis , I believe if a student has a good understanding of the material the "A" usually follows. When the students only drive is the grade, memorization takes over and has a negative impact at a later time because it is difficult to recall and harder to learn again. When concepts are learned this is not the case.
